i’m not even going to make a response post for last night’s episode of gossip girl. it didn’t really deserve one. i had a long list of things i wanted to complain about, including some shared emotions with the dair fans. blair’s asking for chuck ten seconds after she finds out she had a miscarriage? am i hallucinating, or did she really just ask for him? everyone and their mother knows how much i ship chair, but blair’s actions in the first ten minutes of the episode were more out of character than they have ever been in the entire five years of the show airing. and she wasn’t the only one either. chuck scheming with louis two months after the accident? i get that she had been ignoring him for two months straight after the accident, but he wouldn’t do that. everything was so out of character. usually i’m sitting on the edge of my seat, just trying to guess what’s going to happen next. but the only reason i was sitting on the edge of my seat last night was because the episode had rendered me so speechless that i had to force myself to conceal the bricks that i was about to shit. but enough about that utter disappointment of an episode. let’s get to the main reason i made this post.
don’t get me wrong, folks. i fucking love dair as a friendship. it’s subtle, adorable, and during an episode like last night’s, it was rather refreshing considering the other bullshit that was going down. “you look perfect.” i smiled, ngl. unfollow me, if you must, but any girl would love to hear that whilst in their wedding dress. don’t get crazy now, people. keep in mind that i said i like them as friends. purely platonic.
i wanted to get down to what every chair fan is upset about: the lack of chair. it seems we have to spell out everything for the writers these days. you see, when we ask for chair, we mean we want to see chair together. the writers are very literal, if you haven’t noticed. ask simply for “chair” and they deliver. yes, they certainly deliver. they deliver us numerous break-up scenes, out of character scheming, and a constant turning of the tables. but i’ve found that there is a reason for this and it’s quite simple:
they’re stringing chair along until the end, because they know that the obstacles and drama that come along with them being apart is the only reason the show is still airing. if it wasn’t for the bar mitzvah, the goodbye scene, the pregnancy test, the paternity test, the car accident, the prayer to god, and the rest of the stupid shit that happened between them this season and last, the show would be cancelled. contrary to popular belief, chair is the leading ship in the entire show, and is it’s final leg to stand on. i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again, but with an easier explanation to understand.
chair centric episodes = only chair fans watching, because dair fans are like “fuck it i’m out”.
dair centric episodes = dair and chair fans watching, because chair fans have faith that there will be chair scenes.
the writers think we all want dair, because dair-centric episodes get more views. they’re wrong. i’ve seen beautiful manips and edits of dair scenes, and most of them don’t even get half as many notes as what the chair edits do. maybe there’s just more chair fans on tumblr than dair fans. who knows? but as of right now, i’m pretty fucking sure that chair fans are much more invested in the show than anyone else, and if i were a writer for the show, i’d do anything in my power to keep them watching. the writers must be out of their minds if they believe that we’re just going to abandon our ship because of some catchy slogan: dare to dair. no dair no care. as the great riml i-don’t-know-her-last-name said: no blair and chuck, don’t give a fuck. those are my thoughts for now. take it with a grain of salt, i guess.
